Bird & Wild Animal Care

Birdcare

Our gardens have become one of the most important habitats for many species of garden birds. This is partly due to changes in agricultural and woodland practices but also as more of us seek to actively encourage wildlife by planting shrubs and trees, or constructing ponds.

One of the easiest ways to attract birds into the garden is to put out food and water, and you don't even need a garden to be able to do this. We stock an extensive range of birdcare products - infact all of the essentials required.

Bird Tables

Bird tables come in all shapes and sizes and are either open or roofed. The roofed ones help to keep food dry and provide some protection from aerial predators, while open tables are suitable for larger birds. In addition to bird tables, there are also 'feeder trees', which consist of an upright pole with several arms or branches from which feeders may be hung - these make a wonderful garden centrepiece. Do not forget that birds need a continual supply of fresh water throughout the year - choose from our selection of bird baths.

Bird Feeders

Bird feeders range from traditional wire feeders to sophisticated ones that will even spin squirrels off them! There are essentially three types of feeder, those for peanuts, seeds and suet. They are often hung from bird tables but there are other options. Some may be suspended from brackets or hooks that fit over tree branches. Others may be attached to windows using suckers.

Bird Foods

We also stock an extensive range of bird food from the UK's leading brands, including Chapelwood, Tom Chambers and Gardman. Birds can feast upon ingredients that include niger seeds, mealworms and sunflower hearts. Multi-buy offers apply to many.

Bird Houses

From simple timber structures to chic titled residences, classic meets quirky as garden birds take their pick of the best properties in town! Browse our selection of nest boxes here.

Wild Animal Care

When it comes to creating your own wildlife haven, take time to consider the availability of water, food, shelter and space. Try to incorporate plants that will encourage a diverse range of species into your garden, including butterflies, bees, moths, flies and beetles. Flowers are essentially an advertisement for nectar, so aim for a succession of flowers that will ensure a continual supply of this sugary fuel throughout the spring and summer. Wild Animal Food/Attractants

Consider supplementing the natural daily diet of animals such as hedgehogs with specially formulated food. This is particularly helpful when natural food sources are scarce. Pheromone attractants are also widely used to entice ladybirds and lacewings into purpose-built homes in time for their winter hibernation. The higher the survival rate, the better able you will be to control pests in the spring!

Wild Animal Habitats

Give the declining bee population a boost with a bumble bee nester or encourage predators and beneficial insects such as butterflies and lacewings into your garden with our specially designed range of insect habitats/chambers. Don't forget hedgehog and toad houses too!
