Russell Bowes returns for his second talk entitled 'The Painted Garden'.  A virtual tour through some of the major art galleries of the world and a journey through the history of gardening.

From 4000 year old Egyptian tomb paintings to modern London Underground posters, via the Queen of Hearts' garden in "Alice in Wonderland" and the landscapes of Capability Brown, all the major trends and fashions in gardening are explored through the medium of paintings.  Features a slideshow.

You'll hear first hand how the garden centre has changed over the years and as it celebrates its 50th anniversary this is a fantastic opportunity to look to the past, present and future.

This talk will be followed by an official Birthday cake-cutting ceremony with a specially commissioned cake that has been designed and baked in-house by our team of talented chefs!

Nick Dobson has been a keen gardener for over 40 years.  A former Fuchsia Show Champion at local and national level, Nick's talk offers a wonderful introduction to fuchsias (plenty to interest the more experienced gardener too!). 

With a colourful slide slow exploring this very popular garden plant, there will be live plant demonstrations showing how to propagate your fuchsias and tips on how to keep them growing for a fabulous display this summer and autumn.

FREE Garden Expert Talk: Secret Gardens of London

Colin Jones is a gardener, photographer and traveller.  When Colin retired from BBC Television after 35 years as a Director and Film Editor (he was the man who cut out the naughty bits!), Colin enrolled on his RHS Diploma in Horticulture, dusted off his camera and set out to record the plants and gardens he loves.

With over 600 public parks and gardens, London is the greenest city in the world.  The best flower show on earth "Chelsea", Colin visits all of these places, plus the oldest and newest, the highest and arguably the best.  Also the flower markets at Colombia Road and Covent Garden, The Museum of Garden History and the secret gardens within the precincts of Westminster Abbey.  Includes a slide show.

A wonderful talk which is sure to inspire many summer days out!

FREE Garden Expert Talk: The History of Sissinghurst Castle Garden

Stephen Harmer is a full time lecturer who specialises in garden history, he also writes monthly for Garden Design Journal and organises and leads tours to historic gardens in France, Italy and Spain.  Stephen has also worked for BBC Radio Kent's Sunday Gardening Show at the Chelsea and Hampton Court Flower Shows.

Stephen will talk about the history of Sissinghurst garden and the lives of Vita Sackville West and Harold Nicolson who designed and constructed it.  The garden has become one of the most visited in England and a mecca for garden lovers all over the world.  The White garden has also become one of the most copied gardens, although Vita designed it to be seen at its best during dusk!  Includes slide show.
