Here at Ruxley Manor in Kent, we have created a mixture of talks and workshops designed to help you develop your gardening skills. Come and listen to our expert speakers guide you through making your garden a show stopper.  

Orchid talk

11am and 2pm 21 March

Does your orchid look tired? Does it need repotting? Do you want to know how to best look after it? Dr Manos Kanellos returns this year to give orchid enthusiasts the chance to find out how to best look after their plants. Talks and repotting demos: 11am and 2pm, Orchid Clinic 11am - 15:30pm (except during talks). Bring your orchid in for an MOT.

 

 

All about your soil

A real and vastly experienced gardener & gardening writer, Paul qualified as a horticulturist  from college and then worked for The New Towns Commission in large scale Landscape Design & Management. He has also run his own specialist horticultural agency for ten years during which he worked on behalf of the Dutch Flower Bulb Industry.

Christopher has had an interest in bees from an early age and have been a beekeeper for more than 30 years.  Come and listen to his talk to hear about how to work with a colony of honey bees and the importance of the garden for bees.

65 years of horticulture

Jim.jpgSpeaker: Jim Buttress

Jim started working at a local nursery, moving on to the Greater London Council, and ended up with the Royal Parks in London, where he was responsible for Hyde Park, St James Park, Clarence House and Buckingham Palace. He has won eight gold medals at RHS Chelsea and in recognition of his unrivalled contribution to horticulture, in 2006, he was awarded the highest accolade possible in the gardening world, the Victoria Medal of Honour (VMH). 

David Austin roses

Speaker: Mike Sokolowski

Mike has vast experience having worked for the internationally acclaimed Rose Breeders and Growers, David Austin Roses. Come and hear him talk about the scale and intricacies of breeding new Rose varieties, from seed through to launch at the Chelsea Flower Show. He will also share his in-depth knowledge including cultivation, planting and care advice as well as talking about some of his personal favourite varieties and their versatility in the garden.

The future for allotments

Richard is co-author of local government association's good practice guide for allotment site management, and author of articles on political ecology of allotment gardens in the UK and Japan. Come and listen to Richard on his view on the future of allotments.

Create your very own beautiful Christmas wreath, this sessions will be hosted by our very own Visual Merchandising Team who will teach you how to build a beautiful wreaths using a variety of seasonal colours and foliage. All materials are included and you will take your creation home at the end to hang on your front door or give away as a great gift.

Come along to our workshops and learn how to decorate the perfect Christmas tree. The session will talk you through how to dress your tree to impress, how to create your very own sensational Christmas scheme whilst sharing the secrets of the perfectly dressed tree.
